Since graduating from Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen – where she studied jewellery – Lucy ran a successful Highland-based jewellery business for 20 years. Her work moved from jewellery to bigger pieces, tableware, wall pieces and sculpture always based on the natural world around her. Lucy likes to tell a story within her work, her wall pieces are layers of detail like the changing seasons or delicate shadows.
The new narrative that Lucy wants to tell in her new body of work Ultima Thule are of journeys, she aims to tell timeless stories spanning centuries of migrants fleeing from war and persecution. Full of symbolism and mystery, the pieces touch on contemporary themes of war, violence and persecution, but also of hope and faith.
